PANIC, pls help.

Posted by method_acting on October 4, 2003, at 19:03:02

Been playing around a bit with my dosage of Zoloft, per doctors orders. One doc told me to up it to 100 mg, then the next one told me he wanted me off so to start going down.

I made it down to 50 and then was so depressed I quit my job.

My problem is I feel very disassociated with my surroundings and my doctor says its my chronic sinus infection and wants me to get a MRI done this week.

I guess I'm just looking for advice.

Can't say for sure but it sounds like you need the higher dose of zoloft.

Hi, I have never taken Zoloft, but an MRI, in my opinion would rule out anything else wrong.
Are you diagnosed with depression or are you taking Zoloft for something else? Have you tried any other medication?
My advice would be to talk to your doctors about how you're feeling, and maybe you can switch meds.
It may just be a nasty sinus infection.
Hang in there!

I'm by no means an expert but my son is on 100MG
Zoloft (which I am titrating to 75MG). He was on 50MG for 3 weeks and it didn't do much. At 100MG his panic attacks have disappeared and his anxiety and depression are on their way out. It takes a while to kick in at 100MG. At 50MG I don't know that it ever does? He seems to be abit too giddy and laughs inappropriately on a 100MG dose. Do a psycho babble search on Zoloft and you will get some more info. Best of Luck!

How long does it take on 100 mg?

Was he ever scared to go out? Hows that now?

Thanks for your support.

His never had a fear of going out. But yes, he had a fear of eating solid food. That lasted a week and since his anti-psy med is Zyprexa, a drug which stimulates the appetite, it probably might have lasted longer if he hadn't been taking that. However his anti panic drug at that time was Klonopin. I really don't think the Klonopin helped all that much The Doc at the crisis center put him on Zoloft 50mg. After 2 weeks it helped a little, but until the dose was upped to 100mg the improvement wasn't that noticeable. Just yesterday he played the computer game "Half-Life" for 2 hours. A month ago he couldn't play this at all without fear of panic attack. He can also watch TV shows that were making him anxious back then. In short, the Larger dose of Zoloft has helped a lot but I recommend you proceed with caution and monitor your progress carefully. He has been on Zoloft for 3 weeks plus a few days.

FWIW, my path to getting on an SSRI (Lexapro) actually started as a result of chronic sinusitis. After months of trying various things, the sinus doctor suggested that perhaps I was more sensitive to sinus events than other people and that a neurologist might be able to help. The Lexapro has helped my mood/anxiety, as has had "some" benefit against the sinus symptoms.
In other words, checking to see if there is a sinus infection might be a good thing, as the higher dose of Zoloft may have been covering up the symptoms.

Michael

No I didn't experience that, but apparently sinus infections can produce a variety of symptoms. Mine mainly manifests as a pressure/dizziness/light-headedness, sometimes accompanied by a headache (and it makes my motion sickness much worse -- I have to move "carefully" to avoid setting it off).
BTW, I am puzzled that they are starting with an MRI. With me they started with a CAT scan of the sinuses (and only did an MRI to look more closely for "brain" things). Have you seen an Ear/Nose/Throat (ENT) doctor? That would be a good next step if sinusitis is suspected (non-ENTs don't always know how to best approach it).

Regards,
Michael
