Remeron is an NaSSA (Noradrenergic and Specific Serotonergic Antidepressant). For Serotonin,it stimulates the 5-HT1A receptors enhancing serotonin release while blocking the 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors. 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors are supposedly involved with anxiety,nausea, sexual dysfunction (side effects of SSRIs). SSRIs stimulate these receptors instead of blocking them.

I'm also wondering why only 15 mg of Remeron gets me fairly "jittery" and a bit "sped-up", sometimes having an increased heart rate...I know about the norepinephrine effect but I didn't think I'd get that at such a low dose (45 mg was WAYYYYYYYY too much for me---super JITTERY/NERVOUS/SPED-UP (heartbeat was fluttering like a hummingbird!)

I never took Remeron but I know how you feel. I started on Parnate 5 days ago and starting to feel really nervous and jittery. I'm only on 20 mg/day and others can go as high as 100-130mg over time and seem to do OK. Don't know how they do it. Everyone is different. From what I read about Remeron it *SUPPOSE* to have a mild sedative effect making it good for insomnia
and agitated depression. I guess this isn't true in your case. The sedative effect is due to potent blocking of the histamine H1 receptor.

Remeron has significant effect on noradrelinin,
at any dose. The sped up feeling can the the short term effect of the "ramping up" , as
5HT is held at the clef, which tends to go away
as the downstream systems adjust to the inhibation of reuptake of NT's.

Heart effects (increased BP, rate) are classic
noradrelinin effects.
