i took zyprexa the day before yesterday but then my mom took it away. anyway it finally let me sleep. before that i was going 5 days with very very little sleep. like 1-3 hours a day. the day after the zyprexa i was constantly sleepy and tired and i had no motivation to do anything, i didn't even want to move. just lay in my chair trying to stay awake. after 6pm when i took a shower it was a bit better but still no motivation to do anything and very sleepy. anyway it felt like i was disconnected from the world. it was a very strange feeling. mind torture was gone. my head wouldn't be burning anymore and the mental pain was gone. but motivation droppeddd. felt lifeless and just not interested in anything. and some of that is still with me today. i have felt like not doing much. and i still slept well. how long does it take for this zyprexa effect to go away?and what does the zyprexa do that makes it not painful to be alive? because that is what the mind torture would do. but at least in such days i would have a small bit of motivation to do basic things. currently i have hardly any motivation. and it has just felt too strange. and still feels strange today. anyway i just cant take the zyprexa anymore. i stopped it a long time ago for it's constant day time sleepiness. so no use going on it again. i just wonder what the zyprexa does that made the mental pain go away...

I recommend staying on the Zyprexa and augmenting
it with another medication to address the tiredness and
lack of motivation. This is a much better approach than
dropping Zyprexa which is helping so much with the mental
anguish.Have you ever tried combining Zyprexa with any other
antidepressants?Are you still on Paxil?
I might try adding the stimulant Provigil.
Also a Wellbutrin augmentation or possibily
a med like Desipramine will help.Use the stimulating meds to offset the crummy side effects
and keep the pros of Zyprexa.John

Hi Adamie
I can relate to your condition as i've been through mind torture as well.
Recent research stated that major depression, agitated type could be linked to bipolar disorder. How was your pre-morbid condition like?
If you were kind of hyper or euphoric or "cycling" before getting depressed chances are you could have a mild form of bipolar desease. If that would be your case, there are plenty of mood stabilizers that are good for anxiety and depression such as Neurontin or Lamictal. You could ask your pdoc if you fulfill bipolar II criteria. But please get a throughout dx and consultation before starting a new medication. You might want to take a look at this site in the meanwhile:

Adamie,
I am so glad you got some sleep and relief from mind torture. But maybe 5 mgs is too large a dose to start with. You could cut the pill in half and take 2.5 mgs or even cut it again to 1.25 mgs. Zyprexa is strong medicine, and as you know it stays in your body a long time. So, taking less, and taking it earlier in the evening, may prevent the awful hangover/unmotivated feeling, but still give you good sleep and mental relief.Just a thought

Zyprexa has also helped me greatly with "mind torture"... its almost got rid of all my suicidal ideation and obssesion with planning it.. but the dulling effext is really getting to me.. I have no brain anymore it seems.. all I want to do is sleep and lay there, not getting anything done... *sighs* Doesn;t seem theres any other options open to me in the UK though...

I think 5mg of Zyprexa is too much to start out with. Try 1/4th that, (1.25mg/day), to begin with. Continue with that dose for about a week, or until the daytime somnalence subsides, then increase the dose to 2.5mg. If 2.5 doesn't control the "mind torture" then increase by another 1.25 mg after the daytime tiredness subsides.I'm not sure exactly what the mind torture thing is, but that sounds like what I suffer from. It is much different from major depression symptoms i.e. feelings of worthlesness, guilt, sadness, etc. I think that it's a different animal than depression. Antidepressants do nothing for it. I've found that neurontin and lamictal help me a little. I've been thinking of giving Zyprexa a try - I've avoided it because of the weight gain. But, 'better [over] fed than dead.' I hope that if you suffer like I do that you will consider another trial, increasing the dose slowly as I've described - with your doctor's consent and supervision of coarse
