Well, it's been three days now, and nothing is easing up much.
I haven't been able to keep any food or liquids down since Thursday morning now, and I'nm getting damned hungry and fed up with it.
The best way I can describe it is sea sickness... My vision is strange (I can also "hear" my eyes focusing), my head spins all tghe time, every time I eat I puke, every time I cough or sneeze I puke.
I sweat like crazy and get way too hot (it's like, -3 c here right now and snowing) and then get really really cold and start shaking like crazy.I haven't taken a pill today (can't face it, and it wouldn't stay down anyway!) and still feel this way. maybe not quite as bad though.
Oh, and I have a resting heart rate of 146bpm... this isn't normal surely??
Oh, and since yesterday lunchtime, I've been itching like crazy. First it was my arms, then last night my elgs, now it's my stomach. I called my gp, and they said there was nothing to be done, but it's got to the point I want to go to the hospital.
I slept about 2 hours in total last night (in 15 minute batches) and when I'm asleep I'm getting awful nightmares that aren't doing my state of mind any good.
Please - if anyone can help in any way, please, please tell me.
Thanks

Well, I took my last effexor - 150mg on Tuesday morning, but felt like shite, so took a 75mg one on Wednesday afternoon.
i took my first reboxatine on, I think, Thursday morning. Am meant to be on 8mg, but only been able to take 4mg Thursday am, and Friday am. None this morning.
The itching is a nightmare isn't it... and the nightmares, the puking.. aaagggghhhh!!!
problem is, I've been off work with an ear infection this week too (which has thankfully gone now!), so I *have* to go to work on monday - how on earht I'll manage it if I still feel like this I'll never know!!!
Do you take the reboxatine WITH effexor??
Oh well, back to dying under my duvet!! We have friends coming for dinner tonight and have managed to get most things prepared - It's quite a light citrusy meal so hopefully my stomach will cope!!!

Nikki,I think I know a little bit about what you are
going through. I just had a trial of zoloft. It
was the most horrible experience I've ever
suffered through as a result of adverse reaction
to an antidepressant. I got extremely anxious,
but I was informed that this would subside as I
had adapted to the medication. But it didn't get
better. I started to get pannicky and much more
depressed, almost demobilized. One night I woke
up at 3:00 AM and started to have a breif
psycotic episode. I said to hell with this and
stopped taking it cold turkey. I felt better
each day for about a week. After that my normal
depression doesn't seem quite as bad. If I were
you I would get off the Reboxitine and stay off
to see if you start feeling better. Don't put
yourself through that hell no matter what your
doctor says.I think it is strange how differently these meds
Can effect each of us. I tried Reboxitine about a
year ago. I got it from a mail order pharmacy
in Europe. I hated it. Unlike most people I got
very lethargic on it. I like to go on walks
everyday and lift weights a little to keep my
weight down, this has always been hard for me,
but when I was on Reboxitine I just
couldn't make myself exercise at all. Also I
couldn't urinate. It was physically one of the
most uncomfortable experences I've ever had. It
still wasn't as bad as the Zoloft and it wasn't
as bad as what you are experiencing on Reboxitine.
But like I said, we all react differently to
these meds. Again, get off of it for at least a
week before it gets worse, then see how you feel.Vince

Hey Nikki -
I have another post for you (up above) but wanted to tell you this - when i tapered off Effexor the second time my pdoc had me breaking the 75 mg tabs into four pieces, since I am *so* sensitive to meds. It really sounds like you need to get off the reboxetine and take care of the effexor withdrawal. I'm crying a lot in response to rebox, but nothing like what you're experiencing.
A really cold washcloth on the back of the neck really helps me with nausea. My mom used to do that with me, it almost always works.
Take care. Let us know how you are doing.

Nikki,
This may be a stupid question, or you may have already addressed this and i missed it, but it sounds like you might be suffering from withdrawl from the effexor, and from the side effects of starting a new med - both at the same time.
Have you considered trying to stop the effexor, and waiting until you have before starting the reboxetine?
Like I said, you've probably already thought of this...
But fwiw, i found that reboxetine made me feel like I had the flu... if you add that to withdrawl from another med, sounds like a receipe for misery...
...Just kind of thinking out loud (so to speak)... Hope you are feeling better, and were able to enjoy your evening with your friends. Best of luck, michael

I agree with what others have already said, that there are probably Effexor withdrawals combined with new side effects from a new drug. Double whammy. Yikes.
The resting heart beat is way too high. That's not cool. Just based on your description, I would venture a guess that neither one of these meds is right for you. The correct meds usually end up being the ones that have mild side effects and seem to provide benefits fairly fast. That's characteristic of a superior match between a med and your chemistry. With that in mind, neither one of these drugs seems to fit the desired profile.
Different doctors have different views. My pdoc always gave me the option to stop a med immediately if I encountered really bad side effects early. Other doctors will say to stick with it and give it time. Easy for them to say. They aren't the ones suffering. And that view seems to miss the entire concept of superior matches versus inferior matches.
I've noticed a lot of people at this board have a hard time getting off Effexor. I think Effexor and Paxil in particular are especially difficult to get off of. The downfall with Effexor is that if it doesn't work out, it can delay the whole process considerably by requiring such a long time to get off it to switch to something else. To quit Effexor more comfortably you might have to pick up where you left off, at 150mg, and decrease the dose by 25mg per week. That'll take six weeks. And that is the drawback to Effexor when it doesn't work out. Other meds are like that too, but Effexor seems especially guilty.
In your shoes I would continue weening off Effexor, stop the Rebox, and spend the next couple weeks researching and thinking. Come up with some options, the pros and cons, reasons why they are good options, etc, and then make a priority list. Don't be afraid to dump one of your hopeful drugs if it turns out to be a nightmare right from the start. Those are usually the best ones to dump quickly, regardless that we had all our hopes in them.
Disclaimer....just my personal opinion. Other posters and other doctors may agree or disagree. There is no psychiatric bible. You ultimately have to do what you think is best.

NikkiT2-hope you're ok
I took reboxetine about two weeks after i started effexor two years ago because i was so sleepy and the combination seems to work- on a good day.
My psycho would only prescribe 75mg of the effexor[seems he knew something i didnt]and the reboxetine for an added boost,he seemed to praise the goddam drug.Said i may get too high on both and suggested litium -too bleeding right somedays im floating on euphoric clouds but i dont complain only when the highs turn to lows but there is a slice of normality in between.I will probably take a mood stabiliser later but im scared that i'll just vegetate and lose my creativity.
If i miss a dose of effexor i get energy surges before the withdrawal and hoover the floors and even the walls ,next the garden ,then the world.
Rebox is supposed to help with social anxiety-b****cks-not for me anyway i'm ok in the home but outside its irritation city.
Get nightmares on effexor street even if i don't miss a dose,if i didnt get them i'd probably be more than half way normal. Also my pulse is usually always 130+ if this isnt normal should i be dead?
The other replies seem to talk sense and i would suggest coping just with the withdrawal, anyway its medication time!
Let us know how things work out or just babble babble babble.dreamer

Still feel very woozy, and still puking, and boy, talk about crying!!! My poor husband doesn't know whats hit him as I'm bursting into tears left right and center.
But, not *quite* as bad as before. feeling shitty about having to face work tomorrow, but i can't take any time off. Gonna try and see a doc of some shape and form in the morning ebfore qwork though.
Thanks everyone
