1. Does BuSpar have any antidepressant properties? Or is it just an antianxiety med?
2. Have any of you that suffer from panic attacks take any stimulating type med and if so what? Need something for energy.
3. Why was Wellbutrin once used as a diet pill. Is it a type of speed? Does it finally settle into your system and work as an antidepressant?
Thanks Gloria

Some people lose weight on Wellbutrin and almost no one gains. It is not an amphetamine(speed). It is a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake blocker. Most people find it activating and stimulating. It is classified as an anti-depressant.
> 4. What is a good med to help with falling asleep at night due to ruminating thoughts and restless leg syndrome?I think some people take trazadone(Desyrel) which is an anti-depressant to sleep at night. I'm not familiar with restless leg syndrome although I've seen it mentioned on the board. I personally also sometimes take kava (over the counter herbal) and it helps me.
Good wishes A.

I take Wellbutrin now and it can lead to weight loss but I don't think it is used as a primary appetite suppressant anymore.

Good Luck with whatever you try.

Does it finally settle into your system and work as an antidepressant?Gloria - I'm not sure if Wellbutrin was used as a diet pill, but it's structure is related to the diet pill Tenuate Dospan (diethylpropion, I believe). I do not believe Wellbutrin works as well as Tenuate Dospan in curbing appetite, but I also do not believe that one can lose weight by taking a pill alone (unless you have a methadrine - speed - addiction - not recommended). Then, on the other hand, I never have heard of Tenuate Dospan helping in depression. - Cam W.
