PINK FLOYD LYRICS

"Comfortably Numb"

Hello,
Is there anybody in there
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone at home?

Come on now
I hear you're feeling down
I can ease your pain
And get you on your feet again.

Relax
I'll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain, you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
O.K.
Just a little pin prick
There'll be no more aaaaaaaah!
But you may feel a little sick
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good ...
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
And I have become
Comfortably numb.
But I was reading. Did you feel my psychic "HELLOOOO?"
How you doin, Shar?
I'm having a resurgence of depression, titrating up on a new drug the good Dr CattleProd just added, and crossing fingers and toes. Otherwise, just kinda flat.
My complaints are working their ponderous way through the various systems, with varying degrees of nonsense. The County sent my complaint to the Agency for their assessment of whether or not there was any merit to it. My husband thinks that would be a great system for the criminal justice system -- the police could ask the criminals whether or not a crime had been committed. That way, the courts wouldn't be so backlogged...
Good to see you, Shar. Now tell us what's up with you?
I'm doing my "Tube Challenge" next week (http://www.tuberelief.co.uk explains it all...) so busy trying to plan a route that will get me round the entire network in one day!! And also working on our flat trying to get it ready to have work done so its all ready to sell..
Sorry you're feeling bad at the moment.. I wish I could take it all away from you and Shar.. I truly do..
*hugs you both silly*
Nobody could say it like Floyd Pinkman.
Hi, All,
Thanks for responding. I'm totally unreliable these days. Here then gone, etc. But, still here--some would say that's a good thing.
I had substitute teacher orientation, and am totally petrified about walking into a classroom. [Or...name about anything, and I'd probably be totally petrified.] But, one of the speakers talked about being a sub (he's now an asst. principal) and was asked the question "What if we get a call to teach biology or calculus?" (and the person didn't have any experience in that), and he said "Come on down!" So...I think that kind of confidence is a guy thing. He was a coach, and said he'd never taught biology or chemistry or algebra until he was a sub.
I think my newest talent is generalized anxiety with panic attacks (and sometimes, hot flashes in conjunction with). It's a great combo during an interview. "Just one moment; let me wipe off the sweat pouring down my neck, put my head in this paper bag and then between my knees. I'll be right back with you." I guess it'll give me time to think of answers to questions. :)
Anyhow, hope all of y'all are well; meds are working, etc. Glad to hear from each and every one. It is so nice to be able to actually say these things and not have people draw back in horror (although, actually, since I can't see your faces, you may be doing that--but I assume not). It is a great gift that you all give to me.
xoxo
Shar
While I know that this won't help until after the fact, I'm gonna second that guy -- when you get the call to teach advanced bio, head on over. Guess what? You'll do fine. I really hope your first half dozen calls are easier than that, so that you can learn that you really and truly can do it. The kids in those classes will respond to having you there, and they'll all have a pretty good idea of what's been going on in class. What's more, there's certain to be something there to help you figure out what's next on the agenda -- and it's much easier to fake it than you imagine.
Listen, HoneyBunny, for a while, I had a student whose parents were taking lessons from me. He was developmentally disabled -- and he didn't speak English! Sure, it's not calculus, but you know what? We did just fine. In fact, when he went home again, his stepmother told me that I was wonderful with him, despite the language barrier -- she said it was my attitude towards him, my encouragement (the one phrase I managed consistently: "SEHR gut!!"), and the smile on my face and in my voice. If I could do that -- especially the part about speaking German out loud in front of people who weren't family -- you can certainly do this.
For what it's worth, Sweet Shar, one of the teachers I remember most fondly from my own life was a substitute who came pretty regularly when I was in 4th through 6th grades.
I'm rather glowing for you, Shar. That you're doing this is inspiring me. And now that you've suggested it, I'm gonna take a paper bag to every interview I ever go on from now on!
lolol!! Paper bag!
Your reply was very encouraging, and I appreciate it very much. I think you made an important point--the smile, encouragement, positive attitude makes a BIG difference.
Dearest Shar,
If I had children, I'd have you teach them anything in a nano-second. Your grace, wisdom, compassion, humor, gentleness, love of animals, etc., are things that don't come from 'dem dar books'.
Coral,
How nice to hear from you! I take it, from your message that you are no stranger to the 3 R's (two of which need an apostrophe at the least...).
I agree...I could teach children to love animals, deal with others gently, or be assertive vs. aggressive, I could probably draw out of children the best that is in them...Be a steward and bring them along to love and respect themselves and others.
However, that's not what the school system wants. So, there's yet another dilemma.
I truly love it that you can see that in me. Too bad others (the hiring ones) cannot. BTW, I'm printing out your post, and will keep it next to my heart...or in the general vicinity.
xoxo
