Unfortunately for me, at least...

Nikki, you have no idea how embarrassing this is for me to write about, so give me full marks for offering this to you, 'K?

Hemoroids (can't spell it) are basically like aneurisms, kinda -- blood vessels get weakened and bulge. So, the best way to avoid them in the first place is not to stress the vessels involved. That means, don't forget to breathe while you're going potty. Don't hold your breath and strain, in other words. And, once you've got'em, it's especially important to BREATHE while you go. (That's why constipation can bring'em on, you tend to strain more...) Anyway, I've had some good results with the OTC stuff like PrepH cream when I've used it, and it's got a built in applicator, so it's not too gross to use. That's the only thing I can think of to suggest for reducing the discomfort. (And, yes, it does feel like bugs crawling around -- YECH!)

The good news is that, after a few months of total misery (think: suicide was starting to look like the best solution, even though I wasn't all that depressed before this started for me), with very careful behavior on my part about remembering to breathe during exertion, I haven't had any trouble since. In other words, mind went away and haven't come back.

So, use the cream or the suppositories, and remember to breathe. Avoid getting constipated if you can, and don't strain too much if you do (always breathing), and keep breathing any time you exert yourself -- like picking things up, exercising, etc. Another thing that helps me, or that I think helps me, is doing tummy crunches, especially the lower-ab crunches. I read somewhere when I was having trouble that the abdominal muscles help with the potty troubles, so I try to do something to give 'em some extra force.

No question -- that was a dreadful thing to go through. I'm sorry you're experiencing it -- NOT the proper affliction to hit a SuperHeroine! We just won't tell anyone, shall we?
