does anyone know anything about possible interactions of anti-depressant medications and the bodybuilding supplement 19-norandrostendione?
i'm currently on 150mg effexor and 50mg topamax and would like to cautiously begin 100mg of 19-nor 2-3x week on training days
thanks,
v

thanks for answering...
the reason i am interested is for the obvious benefit of increased muscularity & strength along with possible decreased bodyfat levels associated with it
my major concern is how it might interact with my meds... any info would be much appreciated...
thanks again,

V,
I have taken DHEA, rather similar to androtestidione with Nardil. DHEA can actually help with depression. I don't think there is any reaction. I hear it's a good idea to take saw palmetto with the hormone precursor supplements to avoid potential prostate problems.

actually, i took DHEA when they first began touting it as a bodybuilding supplement a few years ago when i was preparing for competition. at the time, they didn't yet know much about dosage and were suggesting quite high doses... being an idiot, i took those high doses and began to develop a mustache... boy did i stop taking it fast!!!
recently i've been considering taking a very low dose as i've read that it is good for people my age (46 - yuck!!)
thanks for the info though... this time i'm trying to gather as much information as possible... :)
regards,
v

I think you are playing with fire. The only safe way to do this is with montering of androgen blood levels...but the idea here is to bring
levels to the norm level after est. that they are not ( common in those over 40) other than that you risk a host of problems and cancer...vanity
is not worth it !james

I am not now, and never have been a body builder, but I was a weight lifter, and--after the knees went--a power lifter. I did use DHEA while using desipramine or prozac. As far as I can tell, it never had any effect on either my mood or strength. I did very recently have prostate surgery; I suppose the DHEA may have contributed.
Of course, if the DHEA had made it possible for me to actually WIN something, at the price of only needing prostate surgery and incurring a bit of kidney damage, it would have been worth it!

is it vanity to take an anti-depressant to help make your mind work better? i'm looking to increase my performance / my recovery / and yes, dammit, my self-esteem... and let's be real... a long range possible host of problems which may or may not occur when i may or may not even be alive becomes moot in the face of what all this stuff i pump into myself to keep me getting up in the morning may or may not be doing to me down the road... the metabolic havoc my meds might be playing on me is problem enough... i'm trying to find a way to balance the whole mess while i care enough about it all to try

I've been taking 100mg 4-androstene-3,17-diol several times a week along with Zoloft. Haven't noticed any interaction with the medication, and I doubt that there would be a problem with 19-norastronedione either. If anything, I would think androgenic pro-hormones would be somewhat antidepressant in themselves, and could augment the meds in a positive way.

i wouldn't think the DHEA contributed to your prostate problems... were you taking an excessive dosage? i remember that they use to suggest doses that were quite high. i felt clearer on it but as i said, the blossoming mustache quickly scared me off it... :)
i'll use a low dose of 19-nor at first, i think, just in case... :)
thanks for the info...
