My last time was a very slow tapper over a year, i didnot use remeron for 5 months (from Sept till Feb) and i had an extreme depression, insomina, anixety and fatigue episode. Could it be possibly that I need to be on this drug for the rest of my life as diabetic people who need insuline or did this medicaion mess up my brain chemisty so much that i am addicted to it?

Hi Lost Life,

As an FYI, the recommendations I have seen for tapering antidepressants are 5 to 10% of the current dose every 3 to 6 weeks. According to my spreadsheet, your rate of taper was somewhere betwen 15 to 20%.

That isn't as bad as some tapers I have seen but because of the type of drug Remeron is, that still might have been a too fast of a taper. By the way, I am tapering off the drug and had to slow my rate down to 5%. I still had horrific symptoms that abated after two weeks. But I am going to hold for a few more.

Anyway, it sounds like you may be still dealing with withdrawal symptoms. Please don't make the mistake of confusing that with a return of the illness.

As to when you will recover, it is individual for each person.

You might want to look into things like fish oil and a good multivitamin. It is trial and error but the right supplements can help with those symptoms.

Some people can't take them so start very slowly.

Hope this helps.
