oxycodone withdrawal

Posted by Hans F. Milo on October 3, 2007, at 14:55:26

Over the last 20 some years, I've had many epidurals for low-back pain, and eventually I became pain-free. I also stopped lifting heavy stuff, like carrying a washing machine up several flights of stairs.

About three years ago, I discovered that hydrocodone could give a nice little high, like smoking dope did in the 70s.
I was prescribed ever increasing amounts, and in addition started using oxycodone, prescribed by the same doctor, also in mega doses. Maybe because I'm 6'2" and 215 lbs. I felt pretty good for some months, felt no pain.

Unfortunately, I lost my libido completely.
Several months ago, I decided to quit the drugs, since I was taking them solely for recreational purposes. Both the hydro and the oxy. Cold-turkey.I had the two worst weeks of my life.
I also had no idea of the price I would have to pay to quit. My wife helped me, or I would not have made it.
After being clean for almost a month, and feeling back to my old self, I underwent a minor operation, and sure enough, was sent home with a supply of hydro and script for more. Within a month, I was back up to my previous ways, and again, euphoria reigned, libido left.

This week, I decided to give up the oxycodone, since I suspected it was the worst of the two.
And again, I'm paying the withdrawal price.
I will give up the hydro later. Hopefully.
