Prozac - When am I out of the withdrawal phase?

Posted by Joe Bloe on April 4, 2007, at 1:04:11

Around Feb. 15, I began a withdrawal from Prozac 20 mgs per day (after 4-5 years of taking it). It really wasn't doing much at all for me. Just all of the negative S/E's plus pretty bad sustained depression!

I withdrew somewhat slowly for about 25 days (10 mgs for a week, 7.5 mgs for a few days, 5 for a week, 2.5 for a few days), and have been totally off now for around 24 days.

I should say that in past withdrawal attempts, I haven't been able to make it below 5 mgs without horrible withdrawals (crying spells, brain zaps, etc), even with much longer taper.

This time I have had a few bad days, mostly in the first week or two totally without it. On those days, I would take Benadryl and even had a 2.5 mgs of Prozac a couple of times. I've also done quite a few other things to mitigate withdrawal syndrome this time (ask if you're interested).

So far, so good. But of course I worry about falling into withdrawal syndrome.

Do you think I am out of the woods yet?
