Hi Guys,
Without really intending to I quit mirtazapine (from 30mg a day) cold turkey a few weeks ago. The reason was I ran out and didnt get around to refiling my prescription. Within a few days of being without the mirtazapine I felt amazing, really alert and energetic unyet calm and composed. It really seemed to me that before I had been rather dozy and dulled and not noticed. After a few days this wore off and I felt the same as I always do. My wife checked with my dr and he was ok with me being off it so long as I was careful for mood changes. However I had one really strange effect, I got itching in random places on my body. Has anyone any ideas on this? Im guessing its due to mirtazapines antihistamine effect, would this be a good assumption? I cant find any information about this other than mirtazapine can be used to treat itching! I restarted mirtazapine after it became too annoying and it went away pretty quickly. I would like to quit mirtazapine if possible since apart from the itching I dont really feel any different without it and Im sure it is still giving me weight gain. I have been taking mirtazapine for a year or two I cant remember exactly. If possible I would like avoid a tapering strategy I take 30mg because at 15mg I found the tiredness side effect too extreme.Best regards Bunny
