Thinking of tapering off Lamictal Seroquel

Posted by txpacotaco on August 15, 2005, at 16:46:18

Hi -

I've been diagnosed as Bipolar NOS. I had a period of about 3 years when I was terribly unstable, though the most severe symptoms were attributed to medication (at one time, I was on maximum daily doses of Neurontin, Topomax, Wellbutrin and Risperdal - when they added Lamictal I elected to find a new doctor who weaned me off to about 1/3 my dose of Neurontin, only). I was stable following a lot of therapy on a low daily dose of Neurontin and Seroquel. About a year ago, I switched from Neurontin to Lamictal.

I would like to taper off my meds. I've tried in the past with a previous doctor's permission, but felt a little insecure about it - I didn't have insomnia, but I was much more irritable than normal which worried me.

Wondering if anyone on this board has successfully tapered off all medications for a significant period of time? I realize that I should go slow. Just wondering how long it might take to feel "normal" again following my final dose... I currently take 100mg of Lamictal and 75mg of Seroquel once a day.

Thanks -

Rachel
