> I can't believe what I've just gone through. I have been on Effexor XR 175 mg. for almost a year now after being switched off Celexa. After having recurring headaches, my GP lowered the dose of the Effexor, thinking this might be the problem. The headaches got worse, I began getting dizzy, nauseous, and having an almost indescribable tingling, jangling effect in my arms and hands. Moving my eyes caused weird sensations in my head. I was scared because the symptoms seemed like the beginnings of MS. I went back to the doc, and after undergoing 2 CT scans and an MRI, he just didn't know where else to turn. Well, I googled the phrase "Anti-deppressant withdrawal" and was shocked by what what I read! There were lists and posts describing exactly what I had gone through, and still am to some degree. I was so pissed off I stopped taking the damned Effexor all together, and now after about 3 weeks i actually feel better than I have in months. (I realize this wasn't the most prudent course, but what is done is done. ) Should I point this out to the doctor or just get a different doc? I've really been jaded by this whole ordeal.
Even some psychiatrists don't fully appreciate the intensity and duration of the SRI discontinuation syndrome. That being said, you might profit from going to a specialist the next time you feel the need for treatment.
Good luck.
