Your doctor is right -- in a way. It is your body's dependence on the Effexor that is probably doing that. Your brain has learned to rely on Effexor to supply the serotonin and norepinephrine and needs to relearn to do it itself.

You may try finding a doctor that knows a bit more about the brain's chemistry. My doc had an undergrad in Chemistry so he seems a bit more knowledgable than other docs I've had.
