> Solstice, what is c-PTSD?
Complex PTSD. Classic PTSD is what's in the 'book.' It's triggered by a single catastrophic event of some type, for example a natural disaster that threatens life, an explosion, being in a car crash (or witnessing it, where great harm is threatened), rape, etc.
Complex PTSD is a lower level of danger - where you aren't necessarily in fear of immediate death, but because of the ongoing, intense level of stress, the threat to your well-being is threatened enough that your sympathetic nervous system is frequently triggered over a long period of time, and you end up (if you're vulnerable to it) with PTSD symptoms. This can be caused by things like long-term abuse as a child, or being in a relationship that is abusive over a long period, or even a series of life crisis that are close together and leave your well-being feeling threatened.
Hope that helps..
