psych help for my partner... what kind?

Posted by invioletlight on January 25, 2010, at 10:45:11

last night, my partner, who is a survivor of childhood sexual and physical abuse, got very drunk while i was at a meeting and ended up on the floor of our bathroom. she had cut the top of her forearm with a razor blade. the cuts turned out to be "superficial" but they bled like crazy and i was terrified so i took her to the ER. they proved to be little to no help and appeared to never have seen a traumatized person before. they did give her a sedative and some fluids (she was dehydrated) but above and beyond that were really no help.

i guess what i'm asking is... what kind of help should she/i/we seek? we don't have a lot of money (both out of work and broke right now, darn economy!). what has worked for you, fellow babblers? and, almost more importantly, what has NOT?

any feedback would be appreciated.
