My T uses more "friendly" as opposed to "motherly" terms of endearment-- "sister", "chick", "woman" are all words she commonly uses to refer to all people, not just clients. One of the many reasons I love [miss] her. I think age/generation plays a role in this, too-- she's in her mid-thirties (I'm in my early twenties), and I've heard her use these terms with people younger, older, and the same age as her. I like that kind of relationship/personality type of thing, but I'm sure there are some who don't. :)
