You know, Lucy, what I wrote really didn't have anything to do with what you wrote. I was thinking about how intensely Antigua was caught in focusing on the relationships, and the subsequent let down, and therapy overall. Not that all of that isn't a huge piece of this. But I wanted to call out the trigger - the enormous pain that broke free and took her down. And then why the abandonment felt so very bad. Because this has happened before - it happens to all of us. Our therapists go away for periods of time and we have to stand on our own.
And even as we try hard to unravel things, we all know that it is all tangled up - the past, the present, our relationships with others as well as our self- so we work hard to figure it out but it morphs and changes.
I've said it many, many times - it would be so great to figure out that ONE THING that we could fix which would make the pain go away. But as much as I wish it, I'm well aware that it is unbelievably complicated.
There are no right or wrongs here. I think it is just great and amazing that there is so much knowledge and support to share.
So please, I hope you don't think I was correcting or criticizing you. I sincerely wasn't.
