This might be an example.

My wife, our son and I were sitting around the table, talking about the US and guns (maybe, I can't remember). My daughter said, apropos of whatever had been said
'If there'd had a loaded gun here I would have shot you all.'
My wife started to say many understandable and useless things, like 'Why do you feel like this' etc etc.
I said
'Thank goodness we have gun control.'

On the way out our daughter gave me a hug.
