If you get over that bump in the road-- the anxiety about entering a new situation--- (which, by the way, most people experience, even if not as acutely, it's pretty universal-- so you're not alone)-- you'll probably really enjoy it and feel good about yourself, too.
In DBT, they tell you come up with some self-encouraging statements, or other ways of handling your anxieties, before you actually go. For example, at home, you can imagine how you'll feel when you drive to the place--and then practicing breathing-- or think of some positive thoughts you could use in the car--(remembering that the anxiety won't last forever, or just saying something like "I can do it"-- or whatever feels right to you). Then when you actually drive down, you'll be prepared, and have in mind some things to do to get yourself over the anxious time.
You'll get there, I'm sure-- and it's great that you want to volunteer. I'm sure your efforts will be appreciated.
