What a hard day!

I think that she did tell you what you need to know. She said that she would have to report it. That means that she believes that what is going on is unethical. And she suggested that you leave him. It isn't what you wanted to hear, but it is the truth.

She also said that you need long term therapy. She only turned you away because she is unable to give you long term therapy. You need to find someone who can do long term therapy with you.

You know both intellectually and emotionally that your therapist's behavior is unethical. That you are hurting yourself by continuing to see him. A different long term therapist CAN help you. Please try to find a long term therapist who you can talk to. You need to do this in order to take care of yourself.

I know that you don't want to hurt your therapist. And I understand your desire to protect him. But what he is doing violates the ethics of his profession. What he is doing makes therapy unsafe. Therapy only works if it is safe. For the rest of us who go to therapy and need therapy, please allow the profession police itself.

I wish that you could start therapy with a different therapist and have the new therapist not take any action until you are comfortable with it. I'm not sure that you couldn't find someone who would do that. You could screen therapists on the phone asking if they heard about unethical behavior of a therapist, could they not act on that information until you were comfortable with it?

Your hopelessness is a result of they way that your therapist is treating you. Things can change. Your life can get better. This man is hurting you. Please don't let him hurt you anymore.

(((Elaine)))

I'm so sorry that this is happening to you.

Please keep posting. We do care.
