Oh WOW! I sinmply could NOT disagree with that statement more.There is griping and complaining (which therapy isn't) and there is getting out all of the nasties that live in your mind and soul (which therapy IS). Therapy is about looking at what happened to you in the past and how it is affecting you in the present.
A highly trained professional therapist should never let a client sit and complain, but rather insist that the client see the patterns of thought and feeling that compromise his or her quality of life at the time.
Is there a cure? YES! You learn to "hold" your past, acknowledge that it is there but that is no longer controls your life.
Therapy has worked for me, it has taken years, but I am the happiest I have ever been. I have several really good really stable relationships in my life and my mind is quiet - almost peaceful.
Could I have pulled myself out of this without help? No way. It took someone that was committed to going through this with me. I was ready to change and my therapist was ready to help.
