I've been reading about corruption in Rhode Island. Feeling some despair...
Then I started reflecting how Rhode Island has been prosecuting corruption. It has been prosecuting corruption. Even when the people of Rhode Island vote a corrupted Governer in (twice!!) and even when the people of Rhode Island display public outrage when the police actually ticket people who don't stop at stop signs...
That's Republicanism for you. The antidote to the unruly mob. That's the idea of it.
As a person who feels like 'the case of the lonesome stranger' where the unruly mob decides to lynch me because they can, basically... Republicanism starts to look more attractive.
I see the Governer took control of some of the public schools around 5 years ago.
I see that Brown actually does have some kind of a programme for local students to pathway through to that University from public schools.
I see that there is community outreach and structured volunteering opportunities and that we aren't there with respect to our development.
'Volunteering' in NZ is a career option. The money goes to people sitting on boards of directors of their tax free company. St Johns is a multi billion?? dollar 'charity' that has the monopoly of ambulances for most of the country and (often) monopoly on patient transport... Our entire fire brigade are regarded 'volunteers'. Pretty sure most of our ambulance drivers are 'volunteers'. It's just what we call the vast numbers of people we refuse to pay in NZ.
YOu should see all the doctor 'volunteers' who are unregistered and unenrolled and not signed off...
We don't have a volunteer system. We only have rabble.
