i guess people's english got pretty good *despite* all that.
that's the thing about people. deaf people spontaneously sign and you really gotta keep on top of that oppression 24/7 to prevent it.
it was only a matter of time before the game was up and the international communities we lorded over 'we developed - you no developed!' overtook us in so very very very very very many respects.
this whole focus on 'human rights abuses in China' and people here latch on 'haha we're better than you' with no... insight.

why don't we hire *quality* reporters to produce *quality* articles?
