we have intentionally pursued gamma baby land.
the people in this country (the bioethics people) do not think that we are morally or ethically responsible for observational studies. i mean to say that they honestly seem to think that people do not need to seek ethics approval for observational studies -- only for interventional studies.
we have intentionally engaged in observational studies of the effects of oxygen deprivation on premature infants.we have intentionally engaged in observational studies of different varieties of surfactant on oxygen uptake on premature infants.
we have intenitonally enaged in observational studies of cold and mouldy housing for babies born.
we have intenitonally engaged in observational studies of the effects of repeated head injury (force impacts in rugby where kids play with no helmets).
we have intententionally lowered the drinking age to 18 such that drunkenness (to the point of cleaners being required to scrub vomit from the hallways) is considered normal and par for the course in all of the university residential halls.
we have intentionally encouraged high school kids to drink.
we have intentionally encouraged smoking (e.g., by delaying legislation to increase the age from 18, by enforcing no sales to under 18).
we have intenitonally encouraged people to inhale who the crap knows what, now, with the vaporisers. in public spaces.
we seem to be doing everything we can to halt the cognitive / intellectual development of our people.
we normalise and okay intellectual handicap as 'normal'. we normalise and okay the idea that school is 'boring' and 'stupid'.
we fail the kids with ability.
we progress the kids who we think will be incapable of surviving without us.
this is a nasty nasty nasty toxic land
nothing grows, here
