Sadly, you are correct about old messages being hard to extinguish, but I suppose if they weren't, we'd never learn positive lessons from our parents. Nature appears to be blind to concepts like morality. I learned, the hard way, about the truth serum qualities of alcohol my first year of college. It took a few punches to the face for me to finally decide to get a better control over my mouth. I think Freud's most important contribution to the world was his concept of the subconscious. It's a powerful thing.
