Personally, I think that the aim should not be the salary by all means, but being happy with work and not worrying too much is better.BTW, In Europe (core countries) the income tax is progressive, gross - deductions = net (which isn't that big anymore after taxes). The capital tax at the other hand, isn't high and for these people there are some little countries with special arrangements for that problem.
