I'd guess not that many people (percentages) voted.

For one thing, of course, women didn't vote. Black people didn't vote. Probably most working people didn't vote. So I'd say mostly people of some means voted, otherwise they couldn't take off several days.

Wonder how that played into the governmental choices.

I'd say for sure Joe the Plumber, or well, sort of Joe the untrained guy who does plumbing for a living, and apparently hasn't paid all his taxes, but has a lot of opinions about politics, didn't vote.
