I was watching this Fox News story yesterday on how a group of Christian bookstores are distributing Bibles to US troops overseas this month. The story blathered on and on as if it these bookstores were offering some wonderful service, oblivious to the fact that oh, maybe the US military should not be used as a strong arm for Christian Messianic beliefs. But uh, I guess we've really never progressed beyond that in the United States, since no one seems to believe in progressivism at the national governmental level in anyway. I mean, it would be okay for a person who did not believe in the two thousand year old culture-centric patriarchal religion of a small group of people in Judea to run for president of the US, right? So, after watching this story, it hit me: There is no difference between Fox News and the 700 Club. Their "stories" offer the same rightist hyper-jingoist, hyper-Christian slant on everything. While Fox News was broadcasting that story, the 700 Club had on the "Cactus Cuties," a group "four young girls (Andi, Baylee, Blaire, and Madeline) from Lubbock, Texas." The girls "delighted the audience with their performance of The Star Spangled Banner." Co-host Terry Meeuswsen remarked how "God is really using you girls for something great." Of course, before being in the Cactus Cuties, the girls had all won several titles in the other southern American religion, beauty contests. It certainly is nice to know we can bring these types of "freedoms" to other nations. And it certainly is nice to see the separation of church and state alive and strong.
