Australian Election

Posted by Sigismund on November 21, 2007, at 1:14:31

I was in a bus with business people when I heard the SIEV-X had sunk with the loss of more than 300 lives.
Coming so soon after the Tampa and the Children Overboard affairs ("Dark Victory"), it seemed obvious to me that Australia was involved.
But no Australian fingerprints were found on the boat.
Careful questions were asked in Parliament (Sen Faulkner, ALP).
And a book was written. "SIEV-X"

So there I was on the bus and the news came over the radio, and no one batted an eyelid.
This to me was fear and national shame.

The election is this Saturday. The betting has Labor at 1.25 as against 4.00 for the coalition.
Howard may be the second PM in our history to lose his seat.
The bookies give him 1.55 to win and his Labor opponent 2.30 for the seat of Bennelong.

It feels actually possible that we may start to remedy our national disgrace.
