I think "staying out" until you agree 100% with some candidate fails to recognize that politics always involves compromise.

But there's a limit, too. Some things should not be subject to compromise. There's also a point where it makes sense to resist the evil of two lessors by refusing to vote for the lesser of two evils.

So I don't think there's a one-size-fits-all-situations answer
