It sounds to me as if he is saying that only traitors/those uncommitted to American values would doubt the committment to American values of the military. But we have no practice with this sort of thing in Australia. Your (non-elected) officials are much more impressive. For all I know (most of) your elected ones too. You should see ours. The Australian public (that part of it that cares) turned off years ago.
