I don't know.....
Atrial fib is so common (my mom's had it for years, as has my ex-brother-in-law).
My mom has hers treated, because it bothers her when it happens. Until the kids had a fit, she would drive herself to the ER when it acted up. Bro doesn't do anything. He notices it, but the docs said it isn't dangerous, so he just lives with it.
Mom's cardiologist told her that atrial fib was extremely unlikely to cause a heart attack. And since her arteries are clean, he told her that something else would get her before heart failure (she's 75.)
The type that *might* cause stroke is the rapid heartbeat type. Bush, as a runner, probably has a slow resting heartbeat so it is unlikely this would occur with him. But even if he did get the rapid type, it's easily controlled with meds.
It's an interesting read, and it's possible that he is wearing a defibrillator, but the odds are long that it's needed because of atrial fib.
Aside: I bought Frank's book several months ago. The first couple of chapters were so circular and Freudian that I got bored. Maybe I'll try again...
