Which liver enzyme? (SGOT?)
The problem is that high folate might be a sign of folate (activity) deficiency, not excess.
Folic acid is not bio-active. It has to be activated by changes in its molecular structure, or your body can't use it at all. Folic acid is a very big molecule, and it gets activated in numerous different ways, so that it can take part in even more numerous biochemical processes.
This blood test is a sign that more tests are needed (I don't know which ones, right off the bat....it depends on symptoms etc.), not a knee-jerk "don't take folate" response.
> I think ive heard before that folic acid increases ocd, so maybe this is making my ocd worse. Im only taking a multivitam though which has folic acid- so i think im going to cut that out and just take b vitamins separate.
Not necessarily.
> The second thing is the higher than normal activity of the liver enzyme. I did some research on it that shows that the amino acid tryptophan increases this, so that lower levels might be better- so ive lowered tryptophan to 0.5 grams per day and ive already noticed improved results. So what does everyone think?
What's important is improved results, not rational arguments about why or why not you should get specific outcomes.
