It depends what you mean by privacy. I don't think the Babblers in Toronto had to tell me their real names, and they certainly didn't have to tell the audience. It's possible they did have to tell the APA as part of the conference registration process. OTOH, I and the audience did see what they looked like.
2. Different people weigh costs and benefits differently. To you, preserving your privacy might be more important than getting to know the psychiatric community, or allowing the psychiatric community to get to know you. I can respect that.
