it is weird, though, isn't it, that i'm not so much into 'verbal things'. like... 'verbal comprehension' in the US sense. or such activities as 'spelling bee'.
it was more about being immersed in a world, for me. i didn't watch much tv as a kid (wasn't allowed to). so i... read a lot of books. famous five. secret seven. nancy drew (didn't much like). hardy boys (didn't much like, neither). wishing chair. five findouters and dog. jill... stuff about horses... mellody towers... the library, of course. and we had a book exchange.
i remember taking out the max number of books i was allowed to as a young person (I think like, 23). 'teen fiction'. then... being done with them within a week. wouldn't take me more than 2 hours to read a 'teen fiction' book...
i remember the librarian saying to limit my reading or i'd run out of books to read. this was when i'd read up all the teen fiction and i was onto the adult. stephen king. dean koontz. took some trouble to find adult fiction suitable for.. a 10 or 11 year old...
the librarian was closed minded of course... had no idea. no f*ck*ng idea.
bitch.
i remember being absolutely terrified. in mortal terror. that i'd read up all teh books there was and there would be nothing left.
