Eric,

I am sorry that you are hurting so much that you feel like you need to lash out at people. Maybe it would be helpful to talk this out with a counselor? I do not sense that anyone here questions your intentions to further mental health research and treatment. It's a great thing to pursue. Some folks just don't feel that the petition your propose is going to accomplish your goals. I see where you were going with it, but I happen to agree with the others that it might not be the best way to go about things; it has nothing to do with understanding my illness.

This does not mean that your energy should be wasted. Wouldn't it make a whole lot more sense to join together with people on the board to brainstorm a variety of creative options to accomplish what I believe is a common goal for all of us? Many heads are better than one, and teamwork is a good way to go.

I want you to know that I'm trying to see through the harshness of your post to the distress you must be feeling. I know a lot of times anger is underlain by a great deal of sadness.

And for what it's worth, I try every day with what little energy I have, as I suspect most people here do. I try to do my work as best I can, I try to help good friends with their own life struggles. When friends are having mental health concerns, they come to me to get advice on how to talk to their doctors, etc. And with at least one of my co-workers, I think I've changed his understanding of mental illness and what a mood disorder entails. And for that, I'm grateful.

Peace to you.
