It would be great if Dr. Bob would make this forum safer, rather than making changes that have caused people to leave or be less supportive/respond less to others seeking help.
The main problem would be solved if Dr. Bob would:
From the registration prompt, allow users to select whether or not there are facebook & twitter links/icons attached to their posts. Current users could edit their settings likewise.
From the registration prompt, clearly state to new users that their initial post will be tweeted to all of Dr. Bob's followers.
This would also prevent bullying, like what seemed to happen to Dinah, and partially solve the problem that is causing users to leave or not post as much.
Maybe I am stating the obvious. But why isn't this being implemented?
- Adding a layer of security protection so years of posts are not exposed on Google. Many forums already have this in place.
- Allowing people to edit/delete their posts would allow people more safety so that if their comments are found on the social networks, they can delete them by coming back here and editing/deleting them.
Cutting and pasting anothers words are one thing -there is little to no credibility as to whether those comments were actually written by that person. LINKING someone's comments back to here is another thing - it compromises anonymity because it shows that person actually did write those comments.
There are other reasons for the edit/delete option...I see a big problem, for example, if someone in a temporary manic episode were to write a lot of stuff about themselves, only to be horrified the next day when they can't remove them.
I did not see one single person happy about choosing to leave this forum because of the changes Dr. Bob added.
Making changes that encourage people to stay, rather than leave, would be sooo welcome.
