We don't have access to IP addresses AT ALL. Think of how Babblemail works - sends to email addresses but neither party knows those addresses only the server "knows" anything. So, as Dinah said, we have tools that allow us to do this, without the actual information.
Also, in the case of some blocked posters, often they don't try to disguise who they are, or even post in such a way as to clearly show who they are, so the use of the tools isn't essential. I don't suppose this will help, but just in case, I don't know of one time - ever - where we have deleted posts of a blocked poster, only to be notified in the future they were not a blocked poster. I am able to feel comfortable with that sort of a track record. If deputies were unsure, we would leave the posts on the board and defer to Dr. Bob.
I hope you change your mind. Perhaps when Dr. Bob returns he can answer in a way that will increase your feeling of safety? I hope so.
