Only one person that actually goes there bothered to reply to it, and I was bitterly disappointed that it didn't get more attention/admiration. Is it illegal to post on one of the 'lesser' boards then send up a flare on Main to alert the herd, possibly with a link?

Not illegal, methinks, but a such a thread started on the main board might get redirected to the more appropriate board, where it could then die an untimely death. Not all transplanted threads survive.
It is not considered civil to double post, that is, to duplicate one post on another board; but putting a link would be perfectly suitable.

It was just a week or so ago that I posted begging a reply on the Social board, asking for replies for threads I'd started elsewhere. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I would not have done so if I hadn't, in fact, felt desperate.
