In reply to babblemail, not working?, posted by Larry Hoover on June 15, 2004, at 8:50:58
Larry,
I don't think babblemail works at all. At least, it's never worked for me (and someone asked about a month ago, and Dr. Bob said he hadn't finished setting it up). As I understand it, babblemail was supposed to enable e-mailing someone using only his or her posting name (i.e., without having to know his or her e-mail address), but the link to the alleged babblemail form doesn't work.
If you want your posting name to appear as a link with your e-mail address, though, when you update your regisration, you simply have to check the box under the e-mail address field that says, "Include with posts; consider your privacy." This, however, will reveal your e-mail address; when someone clicks your posting name, his or her e-mail program will open a new e-mail addressed to the e-mail address you used to register.
If you are concerned about revealing your real e-mail address, you can try a forwarding service like http://www.sneakemail.com (there is an explanation of how it works at http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/admin/20040307/msgs/332134.html).
> I've twice re-registered to enable babblemail, but my posting name does not show as a link. I take it that means babblemail is not working for me? Could you provide a better explanation of how it works? What it says on the "Options" page is inadequate for me to understand.
