the colour of hyperlinks is determined as follows:
* before a page loads, your computer looks at your hard drive to see if any of the linked pages are there
* if so, the links are given the "previously read" colourif your computer crashes, your hard drive may not necessarily be up to date. your browser cache (which is temporary storage of internet pages on your hard drive) may be corrupt and/or the index of the cache may not be correct. this is not a huge problem, but it will cause hyperlinks to be displayed as "unread" when they are really "read".
also, if you explicitly clear your browser cache, previously read pages would appear as unread. (to clear your cache in Internet Explorer, you would click Tools->Internet Options, then click "Delete Files".)
i hope this makes sense (and i'm pretty sure it's technically correct)
