hi shar,

fwiw ... ...year ago i bought a 800mHz G4 flat-panel imac and got my dad's 933mHz P3 dell dimension 4100.
the dell runs xp pro and the imac, os x.
both run off a cable modem from a wireless ethernet router ... ... both see identical separate isp access.(i know, i know ... ... i'm taking lexapro for it ...)
i have been running them side-by-side:
i web browse, e-mail, word process, image process, collect music, store everything, upload/download from various servers and keep up with this message board on both simultaneously.i've used a variety of e-mail clients, word processors, image apps on both machines, including ms office and appleworks on both.
when i have had a problem with one of them i can get tech support with the other one.
(i have not been dxed ocd yet ... ...)
they have run Very comparably .... .... .... each has a few very minor advantages over the other ... ... no clear superiority.
but people have devotional loyalties to their computer system stronger than religion! ... the deeply computer-committed think i'm insane! ... ... ...even the ones who have no idea about my lex habit.
( ... and i failed my gp's test for bp)
i got the sales order with the dell, so i know what dad paid for it and the imac Is 6 months newer (not inconsequential),
... but the imac was less expensive
and it can burn dvds..(~"6 months newer")..i enjoy being "bi-platform-al" ... ... apple's unix-based os x was a whole learning curve on its own ... i had to read a book ... ... not that xp was any party ... but i got used to them ... ... kind of like the acclimation SEs for lex: bad at first, but fades away to nothing if you can hang in there.
the dell will provide diversity and storage for a long time ... i put a 120GB drive in it ...
but i predict that the next time i buy a computer it'll be an apple
.... that G5 looks interesting ... 64-bit processing.and the windows os is so much less secure compared to the imac ... .... but they're behind the router now, so ... ...
fwiw
