Unfortunately, though, the record companies are not absorbing the loss of those profits. They are simply less likely to take a chance on a new, unsigned artist.Previously, a portion of the profits made by big artists for the record company has been spent towards establishing new artists. Rather than cutting back on their profits, the record companies have cut back the new talent they take on, making a difficult industry almost impossible to succeed in.
That's what makes me SO angry when it's artists themselves doing it. I have a lot of friends wanting to make their own music (or films) who whine about how hard it is to be given a break whilst burning the newest CD on their computers. I can't stand how hypocritical it is.
