She told Arthur that what he posted was nasty, to me meaning rude to the point of being cruel. I agree with her. She was being very critical of what he said, not him personally.
Arthur basically had told Mr. Scott, in so many words, to get off his butt and go tough out your job just like everyone else. Alluded to him personally that he and much of our pill-popping culture were a bunch of lazy people. 'Toughen up, mister.'
But anyone with ears to hear, what Mr. Scott's post really was 'saying was that he was overwhelmed with life and it hurt.' He perfectly described the emotions of depression. Author just heard the words, each phrase. It's called dark humor Arthur, Mr. Scott is in a bad place.
Anyway, Mr. Scott's saying, profoundly, what every depressed person has gone through, how it feels, the disappointment, even how we joke about it.
Arthur couldn't get past the literal meanings of each of Mr. Scott's laments. Arthur comes across as engineer type analytical mind and Mr. Scott's an artist. Arthur heard what Mr. Scott said, but he didn't know the sum of it's parts.my .02
