I'm sure there are several pre-written spell-checks in perl (I'm sure it would be pretty easy to roll your own spell(1) interface, too). One concern would be the (cpu, real) time it would take to process each post.
Another idea would be to implement a "commonly misspelled words" check. You could check each post and put the questionable words in boldface or something similar.
