Dr. Bob:I notice you have a small section on benzodiazepines, and was wondering if you could include an exclusive section with some research pointing to the scientific benefits of these meds. People seem to get the impression these things are equal to barbituates in all ways, and often mis-use terms in particular like "addiction".
Of course there are cautions with their use like any drug. I notice a big difference in particular as to how they are viewed and used here in Canada as opposed to the United States. Much like the whole "opiate" controversy, I think you may agree there is some rhetoric and politics not based on science.
Would you be willing to post some solid info on many of the more positive points of the benzodiazepines, along with usual critical analysis? A couple of research centers in Canada (Center For Addiction and Mental Health/Sunnybrook/McMaster) have published a fair amount on benzodiazepine use, and have often taken a much more liberal perspective to their use. Maybe it is more of a political issue in the U.S.
I'd be willing to assist in search of information, but throught you would have access to a tremendous amount of the research out there.
Please let me/us know what you think!
Thanks,
Jay
