Um, I think they just keep alembics in their offices... pointy hats, purple robes and magic wands are optional. I actually took a for-credit class on alchemy in college, back in the Dark Ages... I think I still have my textbook somewhere.
Dr. Bob,
If you were a successful alchemist, you wouldn't have to worry about hosting costs for the site, or charging for membership or finding advertising or foundation grants. I can send you my old textbook if you like.
