Glutaminergic antagonists, like Lamictal, Lithium, Topamax, etc, decrease glutamine activity in the brain. The 'reward' drugs, like all opioids, amphetamine, ritalin, and such, increase glutamine activity. I have found, in the past, a small amount of the amino acid glutamine, helps elevate mood. Too much makes me irritable, though.
I honestly cannot tolerate Lamictal and Topamax, for any length of time, or dose. I respond well to opioids, amphetamine (Vyvanse and Dexedrine), and such.
So, I wish psychiatry would get off the NMDA antagonist bandwagon. No wonder so many feel like crap on these drugs. Yes, I know, many like them, but I see on Facebook many are on Lamictal, all dosages, and don't feel very good. NMDA antagonists *increases* use of opiates...heroin, in particular. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3426813/
So, I am going to experiment with small doses of glutamine and asparate. Lamictal has ruined my days, constantly, for over 2 years, off and on. So has Topamax. Yuck. For me, anyways.

Belief that's failed me now
As Life goes from bad to worse
No philosophy consoles me
In a clockwork universe..........
